Embracing a Sustainable Tomorrow: Lincoln’s Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Project

The future is looking brighter for Lincoln as they proudly unveil an exciting development – the launch of their  electric vehicle (EV) charging stations project. Made possible through a generous funding of $105,000.00 from Natural Resources Canada’s Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP), this initiative echoes Lincoln, Ontario’s unwavering commitment to sustainability and the integration of eco-friendly infrastructure within our community.

The EV charging stations project not only represents a significant stride towards local economic growth and community advancement but also underscores Lincoln, Ontario’s dedication to preserving the natural environment that defines us. As they work towards reshaping their community spaces, educating the masses about zero-emission technologies, and fostering inspiration for future projects, the installation of these EV chargers is slated to commence in the upcoming fall season of 2023.

Mayor Sandra Easton expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “The introduction of EV charging stations in Lincoln signifies a critical leap towards a greener and more sustainable future for our town. We take immense pride in embracing such environmentally-conscious initiatives, and these charging stations will serve as a testament to our unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability.”

Through meticulous planning and fruitful collaboration, the Town of Lincoln has strategically identified key locations for the installation of these charging stations, ensuring ease of access for both residents and visitors. The proposed charging station sites are as follows:

  • Jordan Village Public Parking Lot (3763 Nineteenth Street) – 9 Parking Spaces
  • Municipal Administration Offices (4800 South Service Road) – 4 Parking Spaces
  • Rotary Park (5020 Serena Drive) – 4 Parking Spaces
  • Vineland Public Parking Lot (Victoria Ave and Tallman Dr) – 2 Parking Spaces
  • Charles Daley Park (1969 North Service Road) – 2 Parking Spaces

Michael Kirkopoulos, the Town’s Chief Administrative Officer, emphasized, “As a local municipality, it is our responsibility to be guardians of the environment, ensuring opportunities for electric vehicles are abundant throughout our community. With time, electric vehicles will become a common sight on our roads, contributing to cleaner air and an overall healthier environment for our community. The EV charging stations will be piloted for a year, and we eagerly await feedback from the community to enhance their effectiveness.”

With these charging stations in place, a convenient and efficient method of charging EVs is poised to drive their usage among residents and visitors.

“The deployment of electric vehicle charging stations underscores our dedication to sustainability and a net-zero future,” commented the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources. “By enhancing accessibility to EV chargers, as seen in the Lincoln project, Canadians will be empowered to contribute to our climate goals.”

The project gained unanimous approval from the Town of Lincoln Council during its meeting on August 8, 2023.

We here at Lincolnmain.ca and imlocalca.ca are huge proponents of initiatives like this as it acknowledges advancements made in the electric vehicle market. We are also working with companies and local municipalities and governments to identify possible opportunities to expand this program to include electric bikes as this is a very significant market that has seen tremendous expansion over recent years. The biggest deterrent for most e-bike owners and riders including us is the fear of theft.  We are working to explore possible options to install storage containers/systems so that riders can feel comfortable leaving their bikes to go enjoy what a town has to offer.
