The quaint village of Jordan in the heart of Lincoln, Ontario has seen some exciting changes over the past few months thanks to the Jordan Village Improvement Project. This major community-led initiative aims to revitalize Jordan while preserving its historic charm.
The project kicked off in early 2022 after securing $1.5 million in funding from the provincial government’s Main Street Revitalization Initiative. A volunteer board of directors was created to oversee the project and ensure it aligns with the community’s vision for Jordan.
One of the first big accomplishments was the rehabilitation of the Veterans Memorial Park. This valued community green space had become run down over the years. The project brought in new landscaping, pathways, lighting, and accessibility features. The cenotaph was also refurbished to restore its stately appearance. Feedback from residents on the park improvements has been overwhelmingly positive.
The sound of construction along Main Street signaled the next phase of improvements getting underway. Crews got to work renovating storefronts, installing new facades, and improving accessibility. To build on the momentum, a Shop Local Jordan campaign was launched. Stores are now featuring unique new branding that celebrates Jordan’s rich history. The campaign reminds residents that supporting local businesses ensures the sustainability of the improvement projects.
Although much has been accomplished already, the board says this is just the beginning. Plans are in the works for installing public art, planting more greenery, and restoring the old train station. They are eager to keep collaborating with the community to continue enhancing Jordan.
